Meet Plano, TX Dentist Dr. Paula Schlemmer

Dr. Paula Schlemmer, DDS, MS

Board-Certified Periodontist

Dr. Paula Schlemmer is a board-certified periodontist with a passion for precision, innovation, and compassionate patient care. Born in Panama and raised as a military child, Dr. Schlemmer spent much of her life moving across the country, ultimately completing her undergraduate and dental education at the University of Florida. She went on to complete a General Practice Residency at UT San Antonio before pursuing specialty training in periodontics at the University of Nebraska Medical Center, where she also earned a Master’s degree in Oral Biology and served as Chief Resident.

Dr. Schlemmer was drawn to periodontics for its unique ability to combine long-term patient relationships with highly specialized surgical care. She is deeply committed to preserving natural teeth whenever possible and restoring missing teeth with precision when needed. Her clinical expertise includes dental implant placement, soft and hard tissue grafting, sinus augmentation, esthetic crown lengthening, and periodontal plastic surgery. She also has extensive experience providing moderate sedation for anxious patients, allowing even the most nervous individuals to receive care comfortably and confidently.

Patient comfort and education are central to Dr. Schlemmer’s philosophy. She describes herself as a hospitality-focused, patient-first periodontist and implant surgeon who believes that excellent outcomes begin with clear communication and trust. Having experienced dental anxiety herself, she is especially attuned to the needs of fearful patients and is committed to providing a calming, judgment-free environment.

In addition to her clinical practice, Dr. Schlemmer is actively involved in research, teaching, and organized dentistry. She continues to serve as adjunct faculty and remains engaged in advanced research focused on wound healing and immunology. Her academic background allows her to thoughtfully integrate cutting-edge technology, digital dentistry, and minimally invasive techniques into everyday patient care.

Outside of the office, Dr. Schlemmer enjoys spending time with her husband, a primary care physician with Baylor Scott & White, and their two young daughters. The family recently returned to the North Dallas area to be closer to extended family and enjoys hiking, visiting national parks, and cheering on their favorite teams—the Cowboys and the Mavericks. In her spare time, Dr. Schlemmer also enjoys sourdough baking, embroidery, and running.

Dr. Schlemmer hopes every patient leaves her office feeling reassured, heard, and cared for. To her, excellent patient care means the perfect balance of precision and empathy.
