Frequently Asked Questions

How long does it take for sinus augmentation to heal?

Healing after sinus augmentation typically takes 4 to 6 months. This allows the bone graft to fully integrate with your natural bone, creating a stable foundation for dental implants. We will monitor your progress during this period to ensure proper healing.

What should I not do after sinus augmentation?

Don’t blow your nose or sneeze forcefully for about two weeks after sinus augmentation. Avoid smoking since it slows healing and increases complications. Skip strenuous exercise for a few days. We’ll give you specific post-op instructions to help ensure successful healing. Following these guidelines helps prevent damage to the surgical site.

What not to eat after sinus augmentation?

We want you to avoid hard, crunchy, or spicy foods that could irritate your mouth. Stick to a soft-food diet for the first few days, such as yogurt, mashed potatoes, and smoothies. You should also not use straws, as the suction can disrupt the graft site.

Will my face change after a sinus lift?

A sinus lift won’t noticeably change your facial appearance. The procedure adjusts the internal structure of your sinus and jaw, but it doesn’t affect the external contours of your face. Your appearance should remain the same after healing.

Can I get dental implants immediately after sinus augmentation?

In some cases, dental implants can be placed immediately after a sinus augmentation if there’s sufficient bone for stability. However, most patients must wait 4 to 6 months for the graft to heal and integrate before implanting. We will determine the best approach based on your bone structure.

How long will the results of sinus augmentation last?

Once the bone graft has integrated and implants are placed, the results are long-lasting. With good oral hygiene and regular dental check-ups, your implants and the augmented bone can last many years. Maintaining overall health also contributes to the longevity of the results.
