Periodontal
Disease Requires the Attention of a Specialist
Periodontal
disease affects almost 90% of adult population to varying degrees.
It is a silent, painless disease which often results in bone
loss from around the teeth without any discomfort being felt.
If left untreated, it can result in premature tooth loss.
The disease
is caused by bacteria on the teeth both above and below the
gumline, resulting in infection of the supporting structures
of the teeth. The removal of these bacteria is required to
return the gums to a healthy state.
A complete periodontal
examination, including the necessary dental x-rays, will help
us determine your treatment plan. We treat early stages of
disease by performing scaling and root planing (deep cleaning)
below the gumline. More advanced stages of disease may require
a surgical approach if the initial scaling and root planing
does not resolve the infection.
